Despite worries being expressed about the injury woes of the duo of Super Eagles players, Obafemi Martins and Joseph Yobo, no injured player will be taken to the Nations Cup as Super Eagles team doctors and physiotherapists will subject all of them to a rigorous test in Durban, South Africa.
According to the Super Eagles coordinator, Emmanuel Attah: “The Super Eagles coaches were not crazy to have invited 32 players because they know that anything can happen and they don’t want to be caught off guard. However, we are constantly in touch with Yobo, Martins and all the other players.
“Martins said he could be back a few weeks after undergoing surgery. Yobo can even play a game before reporting to camp. But nobody will take anything for granted as the Eagles team doctors and physiotherapists will examine the players before deciding whether or not they are fit for the Nations Cup.
“When John Mikel Obi was invited for the Kenya game, a lot of people said Amodu invited injured Mikel, but he turned out to be one of the most outstanding players in the match.”
Attah further assured that “only the best players will be taken to the Nations Cup in Angola as there will be no automatic shirt for anybody. Every player must merit his inclusion to the team by fighting for shirt,” he concluded.
